Recently, I got my hands on the Blu-ray release of Young Sheldon Season 3, and I found myself glued to the ninth episode:
There is a specific shot in E09 where Sheldon shines a flashlight under his bed looking for the cat. On streaming, that dark scene is often a blocky mess. On Blu-ray, the shadows are deep and clean. You see the dust motes and the fear on Sheldon’s face clearly.
Streaming compresses audio. On the Blu-ray, the laugh track is noticeably quieter (thankfully), and the ambient sounds of Medford, Texas—the crickets, the train whistle, the clanking of Meemaw’s kitchen—are crisp. During the cat-chasing sequence in E09, the surround sound separation is genuinely hilarious.
