George sees an opportunity. The Medford High School baseball team is terrible, and his star pitcher just broke his wrist skateboarding. He convinces Coach Perkins (guest star Dan Ahdoot) to let Missy try out. Despite initial sexist objections, Missy throws three perfect strikes, earning a spot as the team’s relief pitcher.
Sheldon, who detests manual labor, negotiates his way into “cognitive chores” (helping Georgie with algebra). Georgie (Montana Jordan) hilariously fails to understand basic equations, and Sheldon’s condescension leads to Georgie paying him $5 just to stop. Meanwhile, Missy (Raegan Revord) is revealed to have a hidden talent. During a neighborhood pickup baseball game, she accidentally throws a baseball so fast and accurate that she shatters a lawn gnome from 40 feet. George Sr., witnessing this, is stunned. He approaches his father, George Sr. (Lance Barber), for $40 to buy a vintage parasol from an online auction. George, already stressed about bills and his upcoming high school football season, refuses. Sheldon then tries Meemaw (Annie Potts), who laughs and calls it “the dumbest thing I’ve heard since your brother tried to start a worm farm.” Finally, he goes to Mary (Zoe Perry), who gives him a firm “no” but offers a compromise: he can earn the money by doing extra chores. George laughs and drives Sheldon to the antique store—which is closed. Sheldon stares through the window at the parasol. In a rare moment of warmth, George picks the lock (a skill from his own wild youth) and “borrows” the parasol, leaving $45 in an envelope under the door.
Sheldon, furious and feeling abandoned, tries to walk to the antique store (90 minutes away on foot). He makes it three blocks before Mary fetches him, dragging him back to the game. After the game (which Medford wins 4–3), George apologizes to Sheldon. He admits he should have kept his promise but couldn’t miss seeing Missy succeed. Sheldon, in his robotic way, says, “I’ve calculated that a sibling’s rare athletic achievement occurs with less frequency than a vintage parasol acquisition. Therefore, your choice was mathematically suboptimal but emotionally understandable.”
