(Agitated.) That’s not fair. We’re free. We don’t have to be afraid of anything. Note: This is an original dramatic adaptation for

(Softer, taking her hand.) That’s the best part. You know what that water does

(Whispered.) You’ll forget us.

No. I’ll remember you. Both of you. And I’ll live a whole, short, beautiful life. And at the very end, when I’m old and gray and ready… I’ll think of you, still seventeen, still running through these woods. And I won’t be sad. I’ll be glad that someone gets to carry the story forward.

(He laughs, a bright, boyish sound.) That’s the point! You won’t get old. You’ll be eleven forever. Or seventeen, if you wait a few years. We could travel the world, Winnie! See oceans, mountains, cities that haven’t even been built yet. We’d be together. Always.
