I tried to remove S mode on a new Windows 11 laptop without logging into or creating a Microsoft account. Officially, Microsoft’s own documentation says you need to be signed in with an admin Microsoft account to switch out of S mode via the Store. So out of the box, it seems impossible. remove s mode without microsoft account
Microsoft should allow local admin accounts to remove S mode without jumping through hoops. Until then, either accept a temporary Microsoft account login or prepare for a full reinstall. Here’s a review of the process and challenges
⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5 – for the hoops you have to jump through) Microsoft should allow local admin accounts to remove
If you absolutely refuse to use a Microsoft account (even temporarily), expect to do a clean OS reinstall. For most users, it’s easier to sign in once, remove S mode, then switch back to a local account – but that wasn’t the question. So yes, possible, but impractical for non-tech-savvy users.
