This paper analyzes the intersection of Vedic astrology (Jyotish Shastra), vernacular media, and algorithmic technology. It argues that the digitization of rashifal (horoscope) into daily, clickable content has transformed astrology from a consultative, guru-led practice into a commodified, data-driven ritual of self-management. By examining linguistic preference (Nepali), temporal framing ("today"), and platform affordances (social media and apps), this study reveals how digital rashifal serves as a coping mechanism for neoliberal uncertainty while simultaneously reinforcing caste-based and gendered cosmologies. 1. Introduction: Beyond the Superstitious Gaze In Kathmandu Valley, between swiping on Tinder and checking the stock market, a growing number of Nepalis—from taxi drivers to diaspora students in Melbourne—query "rashifal today Nepali." Western scholarship often dismisses horoscopes as "superstitious residue." However, this paper posits that the daily rashifal is a vernacular technology of governance . It allows individuals to navigate the precarity of modern life (job loss, migration, political instability) by aligning personal agency with cosmic determinism.
