Abstract This paper examines the second season of the Amazon Prime series El Presidente (2020–2022), which dramatizes the 2015 FIFA corruption scandal, through two lenses: (1) its narrative and socio-political commentary on Latin American football governance, and (2) its presentation on BD50 (dual-layer Blu-ray) as a medium for high-bitrate A/V preservation. The BD50 format’s capacity (50 GB) allows for superior video/audio fidelity, which is critical for the series’ cinematic scope. The paper argues that physical media like BD50 serves an archival function, preserving complex political dramas against streaming-service content volatility. 1. Introduction El Presidente (Spanish: El Presidente ), created by Armando Bó, follows Sergio Jadue (played by Andrés Parra), a lowly Chilean football club president who rises to power within CONMEBOL and becomes a key informant in the US Department of Justice’s investigation into FIFA. Season 2 (released 2022) shifts focus to the aftermath of the “FIFAgate” arrests.
