1. Introduction Chiapas, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Chiapas ( Estado Libre y Soberano de Chiapas ), is located in southeastern Mexico. It borders Tabasco to the north, Veracruz to the northwest, Oaxaca to the west, the Pacific Ocean to the south, and the Republic of Guatemala to the east.
