Denji and Power are nearly executed by Kobeni and Arai (from Division 4’s special squad) for breaking rules, but Makima — Denji’s mysterious, emotionless superior — intervenes. She offers Denji a new deal: obey her orders, and she will grant his next wish. Denji’s wish? To live a normal life with food, a bed, and a girlfriend.

Power betrays Denji to save her cat Meowy from the Bat Devil . Denji defeats the Bat Devil, but the Leech Devil appears, capturing Aki. Denji kills the Leech Devil, earning Power’s loyalty (she promises Denji he can touch her breasts — which he later does with underwhelming results).

The world’s most feared devil — the Gun Devil — killed over a million people in a rampage 13 years ago. Makima reveals that if Division 4 helps recover a piece of the Gun Devil, she will grant Denji’s wish. They hunt the Sea Cucumber Devil for intel, but a Yakuza Devil attacks. Denji fights ruthlessly, showing his growing instability.

Denji, a teenage devil hunter, lives in crushing poverty with his chainsaw devil partner, Pochita. To repay his yakuza debt, Denji hunts weak devils. Betrayed by the yakuza (who made a contract with a zombie devil), Denji is killed. Pochita makes a contract with him, becoming Denji’s heart. Denji revives as the Chainsaw Man — able to sprout chainsaws from his arms and head. He slaughters the zombies and is recruited by the government’s Public Safety Devil Hunters.

In a desperate move, she sacrifices everything — including her own body — to summon the Ghost Devil’s full power. She seemingly dies. Denji, enraged, transforms and kills Katana Man — but is shot by Sawatari.
