The plot follows Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) as she creates an online wishlist for her underfunded classroom, only to be hilariously (and cynically) one-upped by the veteran, burnt-out teacher Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter). Meanwhile, Principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James) delivers some of her most cringey-yet-hilarious lines as she tries to insert herself into a local news segment about the school.
